Dear Visitor,

A warm welcome to Shaheed Mahendra Karma Vishwavidyalaya, Bastar, Chhattisgarh.

It gives me immense pleasure to be the Vice Chancellor of this University which is located at the heart of the world-famous Bastar region. Bastar is globally acclaimed for its unique tribal culture and picturesque natural heritage. It also holds the distinction of being one of the most promising regions of the country as being a reservoir of untapped human resources. This bestows upon me abundance of opportunities to contribute to the maximum human development of this region.

We, therefore, strive to provide high quality, professional, technology-enabled and skill-based higher education. Our efforts are to transform students into skilled human capital and global citizens who can contribute to the progress and development of humanity. Hence, we offer a high quality of teaching-learning, congenial academic environment, vibrant campus life and diverse learning opportunities for holistic development of students. We envision to develop this University as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ in higher education and research in this region.

We are wholeheartedly committed to the overall development of tribal population of this region. Our focus is on educational development of tribal communities, preservation and promotion of their unique tribal culture, empowerment of tribal women, professional training of tribal youth and sustainable development of their natural resources. We wish to transform our University into an ‘Advanced Centre for Tribal Education and Research’. In this direction, we have already created ‘Women Empowerment Cell’ to make women of this region self-reliant, with special focus on the empowerment of tribal women.

This region also offers a plenty of opportunities for academy-industry integration in order to enhance the employment prospects of students and meet the skilled manpower requirements of industries. We are thus in the process of signing MoUs with different industries, NGOs and government institutions so as to provide varied employment opportunities to the students of our University. In this regard, we have signed an MoU with Alliance for Behaviour Change, UNICEF and has started India’s first Behaviour Club with the aim of bringing about desirable social and behaviour changes in students and prepare them to meet the changing needs of society.

In addition to students, qualified, competent and professional teachers are the backbone of any University. Therefore, we focus on the continuous professional development and capacity building of our teachers. We constantly work to provide them a plethora of quality enhancement opportunities through organization of national and international seminars, conferences, workshops, panel discussions, training programmes and inter-departmental teaching opportunities. We also work to promote research and innovation among our teachers so that they can contribute to the national and global development.
